May is my favorite month...

May 15, 2006

May is my favorite month... As a sports fanatic I can experience it all; hockey and basketball playoffs, baseball's in full swing, fruits of the labor of college football and NFL draft meld, and locally city athletic fields burst at the seams... It's a time to reflect on the past and think about how actions and decisions made during the election of 2004 have directed our city's resources of time, money and people. Responding to the question of whether the November election is pivotal in shaping Costa Mesa's future it's important to remember in '04 there were 12 candidates vying for three seats. Roughly 39,000 votes put two members on the city council with a passion and vision for a community-friendly Costa Mesa and only a couple hundred votes separated reasonable, thoughtful candidates from tipping the dais to its current majority where the accomplishments are tainted and do not represent the best interests of the residents. It's taken two years to dismantle successful programs and committees...while a plethora of potholes and a battle for playing fields remain. It's taken two years to divide the residents on a myriad of issues and it's going to take more than a bridge across Placentia to reunite this community. You bet this election is critical.
