From the Byrds to the Bible
Ecclesiastes 3:1To every thing (Turn, Turn, Turn) … there is a season, (Turn, Turn, Turn) … and a time to every purpose under the heaven. 3: 11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
The internet is no place for a person who suffers from attention deficit disorder (ADD) or someone whose mind is apt to wander. What started out with a time to read to a time to cry and a time to surf ended as a time to write…
My email to Amy Hollingsworth began…Such a gifted writer you are, Ms. Hollingsworth, and I am only on page 10 of your book, “The Simple Faith of Mr. Rogers." I happened to pick up your book in the new titles section at my library the other day for some light weekend reading. My son, who will begin his senior year in college in the fall, & I grew up together with Mr. Rogers in his Neighborhood and so I was a bit curious to find out who the real Fred was… How blessed you are to have known him; and how fortunate I am to have found your book. As soon I got past the first few pages I wanted to know all about you and without even knowing it, I could feel God's presence in your work! I surfed the internet and began to search Amy Hollingsworth. Trying to go back & forth from your book and my musings I am energized by what I am reading. Why just this morning as I empted the dishwasher, cleaned the outside windows, hosed off the outdoor patio furniture, wrote two personal notes, emailed some volunteer work-related correspondence, and organized one closet, my husband had just finished his third trip to his study (also known as the bathroom) with books in hand. (At this was only 9 AM on a Saturday!) I began to get steamed at his lack of ability to roll up his sleeves and tackle his honey do list and so I took your book and a cup of constant comment tea with me and sat in my spa tub to read the words of Mr. Rogers: "and so for me being quiet and slow is being myself and that is my gift." As soon I found that passage I thought of my husband, that dear sweet non-Newtonian fluid guy and I fell in love with him all over again. Yes, you have made a difference in my life today. Ms. Hollingsworth, How I wish I could purchase one of your books and have it autographed. It is a little gem and I plan to give your book as gifts for Christmas this year! At fifty four, I just published my first book of poems "Stories of Old" after my mid life career shift landed me in a two year program and a Certification in Gerontology where I interviewed the elderly. Thanks for sharing and please visit my websites. Thank you and God Bless!
Well, the internet made it very easy for me to track down this author, mother, freelance writer, and professor of psychology at Mary Washington College. To send off an email to ‘Amy’ was just something I wouldn’t hesitate to do…telling someone what I think of them, expressing gratitude or letting someone know how he/she has impacted my life is all part of a typical day for me. But when I received a response from her just two days later, my heart was warmed beyond words and my head is still reeling:
Dear Charlene Thanks so much for taking the time to write! I have a stack of letters from readers I have yet to respond to, but had to rearrange the order so that I could respond to your lovely note right away! and without even knowing it, I could feel God's presence in your work! The highest possible compliment for anyone, writer or otherwise. Thank you for being so gracious! I surfed the internet and began to learn all about you. How industrious you are! I hope you weren't disappointed! I began to get steamed and them took your book and a cup of tea with me and sat in my spa tub and read " and >so for me being quiet and slow is being myself and that is my gift" and soon I found that I husband is a non->Newtonian fluid guy and I fell in love with him all over again. I absolutely love this story! Thanks so much for sharing it! (Although I'm a little envious you have a spa tub!)How I wish I could purchase one of your books autographed. I would be honored to inscribe your copy for you (and hopefully get it back to you in a timely fashion; my book tour has been extended from its original six weeks to six months!). I just published my first book of poems "Stories of Old" I would love to read it! I worked with the elderly in undergraduate and can imagine how moving your poems must be. Thanks again, Charlene, for taking time out of your busy day to write to me. I look forward to getting to know you better through your websites. Sincerest thanks, Amy Hollingsworth

And so I remind you today, to listen to the music and remember its orgins and let the song take you back to that place in time... Make time to open the Bible or at the very least pray... Pick up something and read: a book, magazine or the paper and follow your thoughts and if you can't stay on course make a new path... And by all means, tell someone today how they have made a difference in your day.
